It is 42 days since I started a claim with this company (who outsource the insurance to another company registered in Poland). No reply for the last 2 weeks. My accident involved no other car, and no injury - the most simple that could be dealt with.

Had been with iCarHire Insurance for their Excess Annual coverage. I didn't ever have to make a claim, but it's about piece of mind, in case you need protection from some exorbitant excess charge from a shady rental agent.

The policy is very clear - as you'd expect, they cover hire cars out on hire agreements. They have a maximum continuous hire policy of just 64 days within the annual policy. However, when I contacted to confirm they were happy with me signing up to a hire agreement that rolls over monthly (monthly agreements, each <64 days), and even though I would only be signing up for 2 months (cumulatively, less than 64 days), they said No. They said that would be a lease; but when challenged and shown that it's definitively not a lease, they changed their position and said it's a subscription, not a "hire". However, the agreement with the hire company is literally under Hire contract Ts&Cs - bold letters at the top of the agreement. Everything about the agreement is a normal hire; and I would note that their policy wording doesn't even have a view on the term "subscription". They have not been able to cite any part of their policy that justifies their position; they have just decided to deem my hire agreement "not a hire". So in closing, if this is the type of game they will play with me before I've even had to make a claim, I wouldn't be counting on them if I did need to make a claim. I have been trying to formally raise a complaint. iCarHire say the complaint has to go through the underwriters (who had been promptly replying to say "No, it's not a hire"), but it seems they're substantially slower at dealing with formal complaints. Financial Ombudsman process it will be...

Have updated my review as my claim did eventually get processed.
First contact on the 9th Sept, claim paid on 30th October, so a good while to wait but was eventually paid out.
One of the frustrating aspects is that icarhire are more of a broker, so their customer service is terrible as they just try to pass you on without being able to provide any updates to a claim.

If I could rate this company zero I would. They changed underwriters last year, and the new underwriters are beyond awful. They stall the claim, request the same document multiple times, do not respond to emails etc. I am now resorting to reporting the company to the FSA and taking them to the small claims court to get my money back. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I made a claim over 7 weeks ago, and although i had provided all documents and the total amount to be refunded was quite low (less than £200) I have had no further communication from them since. I also have called their customer service (at Zurich) and the only thing they can say is that it's not their responsibility! that is scandalous! Now I will have to pay for the extra insurance when hiring a car anyway after having paid them more than £120 for a global insurance. I agree with another review: they are a scam company and they take your cash and then when you need to claim they just wear you down with silence. Avoid them!

I had a 1 claim of approximately 200 USD — locked keys inside car. It is worth mentioning that they are just agent selling product of different insurance companies — i had Zurich insurance. Although it took some time, and they requested several nonsense documentation (like invoice with precise location and car model from locksmith that opened my car), clearly designed to put of some people, after several emails i was able to successfully get claim. It took around 6 weeks in total of which 3 weeks from point when they promised to credit to my account. I will use them again

My wife made a claim over 6 weeks ago, and despite providing all documents requested we have had no further communication from them since. Have contacted the complaints team and they try and say it's not their responsibility. I have recently hired another car and paid for the extra insurance rather than risk having to claim again through iCar. In my opinion it is effectively a scam company, they take your cash and then when you need to claim they just wear you down with silence.

Awful claims service, poor response, inconsistent decisions and when asked about a complaints process and policy they advised, we don’t have one.
Make sure they will cover you before buying, had one claim accepted after a complaint now claimed again, using the same company to rent and they advise we no longer support that rental company. Maybe so but how do you no that if they don’t tell you.
My advice stay away, much more reputable companies out there.
