I shipped my package via UPS through Pirateship, with insurance provided by Shipsurance (purchased through Pirateship as well).

I have tracking information where UPS has clearly stated that they damaged the box and lost all of the contents. With that said, I have spent the past month now trying to get reimbursed for my damaged package.

Shipsurance is being a total hassle over this, wanting proof that my customer paid for the product, and even after providing this information, now wanting proof that I actually deposited my customer's check. This is absolute absurd.

The facts are simple:
1) I paid to have the package insured
2) It does not matter whether I was shipping to a paying customer, or a non-paying person... I paid for this package to be insured.
3) It does not matter whether my customer paid, when my customer paid, when I deposited my customer's payment... I paid for this package to be insured.

The resolution is simple:
1) I shipped a package, and paid to have it insured
2) UPS admitted they damaged the package
3) I expect to be reimbursed for the cost of the package without being harassed about it

Simply put, Shipsurance wants to collect money for supposedly insurance shipments but does not want to pay out when there is a claim.

EDIT: In response to their reply... looking for my customer's payment, or bank records showing that I deposited it, does not verify the value of the shipment. What DOES show the value of the shipment, however, is 1) the amount of money I insured the package for 2) the invoice that I sent my customer (which I sent to you a month ago)

DO NOT RECOMMEND

We’ve been using this insurance company through Pirate Ship for over a year, shipping 10 to 20 packages daily. Unfortunately, our experience with their claims process has been extremely frustrating. Despite UPS confirming that a package is lost, we’ve had to jump through countless hoops to get a claim processed, including having clients sign affidavits and responding to new requests every day latest: a photo of the mail in which the signed copy came from which they conveniently ask for after we receive the affidavit. We now have to scrummage thru the garbage can to find this. This company is not legitimate and everything is a catch 22. It seems they don’t want to pay out. Most insurance claims are a form filled out and submit. This one requests new info daily.

The claim has been an exhausting process, far more complicated than any other insurance company we've worked with. The overhead and time wasted make this service not worth it. We cannot recommend this insurance provider.

DO NOT recommend, use ROUTE Package Protection! ROUTE provides EXCELLENT customer service, and go above and beyond to help with the claims process! ROUTE does the jumping through the hoops for their customers, unlike Shipsurance. Used Shipsurance for years (much experience with them), and they pick and choose what kind of information they want for each claim, there is no across the board universal requirements. They will find ANY WAY to get out of paying. Ponzi. And I know I'm not the only who would think such of Shipsurance. Contact ROUTE! Best customer service! We've switched and been using ROUTE for about 3 years now, NO ISSUES!!! BREEZE TO WORK WITH!!! Occasionally we'll insure with Shipsurance, and of course, it is an issue when we have an issue.

Took care of me on my lost package. However, read the fine print carefully as this is not the insurance you are looking for if you manufacture items. Payment has to be made before you ship items for their terms to cover the item or you need an estimate of value. This insurance is only ideal for specific situations. It is not just a general blanket to cover all shipping mishaps.

I am a small business owner and we have shipped over 2000 packages this year alone with a .456% claim rate which is well below the 10-11% national average for the large carriers. A recent claim of ours was denied because the customer did not provide internal packaging photos, which we cannot control. This is unacceptable and we have no way of controlling what the customer keeps and does not keep. We have poured thousands of dollars over the years into your shipping insurance. This is disgusting.

Recently had a package have missing items and damage to the remaining items that stayed in the box from UPS with a label I bought through Pirateship. The claim from pirateship and shipsurance was a seamless process and I was paid out within 2 weeks from opening the claim. I highly recommend getting shipsurance. Thanks for helping me recover from UPS mishap, that's what insurance is for!

I have to agree with every 1 star or negative review here. The requests for documentation is repetitive. We pay for a service that they refuse to give us without jumping through hoops. An order worth over $1000 had to be split into 2 shipments. The first shipment was damaged and they just received an empty box with a piece of paper saying oops we are sorry. The other box is floating around somewhere in the US. We opened a claim on both packages. Never once did they tell us neither claim had to wait a holding period of 20 days. However, they were mailed on the 9th of August so it's well past the 20 days. They are wanting us to wait until September 11th, with is over 30 days after being shipped. They sent us links for the customer to fill out. Done. Then they tell us it was signed too early. Whaat? You never mentioned when it should be signed, you stated it had to be signed. Then say it has to be 20 days. Okay, it's been 20 days. Currently awaiting their next excuse not to pay this $1800 claim. If you're going to steal people's money and not give them the service they paid for, maybe we should all report it to the FTC or the consumer affairs? Unfair trade practices. They comment on the reviews with smart comebacks stating they pay people's claims but after the person is frustrated with going back and forth with repetitive things. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Such a shame too, as we spend thousands with them per year.

This company seems to go out of its way to avoid paying out legitimate claims, making the entire process incredibly stressful and time-consuming.

From the moment I filed my claim, it was clear that their primary goal was to find any possible reason to deny it. The email communication was unhelpful and often slow, providing vague and contradictory information. Each time I received a response, it felt like I was being redirected to a different department, and I had to explain my situation repeatedly without any resolution.

The documentation requirements were excessive and confusing. Despite providing all the necessary paperwork, I was continually asked for additional documents, some of which seemed irrelevant to my claim. It felt like they were deliberately creating obstacles to delay the process.

After months of back-and-forth through email, my claim was finally denied based on a technicality that was not clearly explained in the policy. The entire experience left me feeling exhausted and defeated. It's evident that Shipsurance Shipping Insurance prioritizes its bottom line over the needs of its customers, doing everything possible to avoid fulfilling their obligations.
